Nagasaki Peace-preneur Forum Powered by One Young World 2024

Despite the advancements in science and technology, the world continues to grapple with enduring conflicts. Global challenges like climate change and infectious diseases only compound these issues. In our rapidly evolving world, the future appears increasingly uncertain. To create peace amidst these circumstances and to embrace the hope of a better tomorrow, a forum for cultivating Peace-preneur will be convened in Nagasaki, the A-bombed city of Japan.

This forum in Nagasaki, in collaboration with OYW, aims to nurture peace-preneurs, a term coined by combining the words 'peace' and 'entrepreneur'. These individuals are dedicated to launching and promoting projects and activities that foster positive global change under the theme of peace. After the Forum, we will be committed to continuing our support by assisting them in commercializing their projects, facilitating partnerships with companies, and raising funds. It is people who create peace. Why don't you join us in the movement to nurture the next generation of peace builders from the land of Nagasaki?

5/11-Day 1

Talksession Day

On the first day, guest speakers will give presentations, talk sessions and Q&A sessions to gain inspiration for the following day's workshops. Lecturer 2024 will cover the following three topics

1, Citizen empowerment

The world is connected. With increased mobility and advancements in communication technology, our world has become smaller. We are all integral parts of this global community as citizens of the world. How can we empower this movement?

  • Talk Session 「Citizen empower」

Each of us has the power to change the world. Despite this, many people are indifferent to social issues. Or a sense of powerlessness robs them of self-confidence. What can people around the world do to become aware of their individual power and take action?

  • Talk Session 「Humanity Needs Us」

Beyond the prohibition of slavery and the promotion of gender equality in civil and political rights, the International Covenants on Human Rights also affirm the 'right to life,' ensuring that no individual can be arbitrarily deprived of their life. How can we integrate these historical achievements into everyday life and leverage them to promote peace?

2, Global Wellbeing

Poverty and hunger, global environmental degradation and widening inequalities - these are problems that cannot be resolved solely through economic rationality. What actions can be taken to pursue individual well-being, recognizing the necessity of transnational cooperation?

  • Talk Session 「beyond GDP」

What indicators and economic systems extend beyond GDP, ensuring sustainability and upholding individual human rights? How can we instigate a paradigm shift to realize this vision?

  • Talk Session 「technology for Wellbeing」

In envisioning a peaceful future, whose voices may be overlooked? How can technology dismantle isolation and barriers, fostering autonomy and socialization for all individuals?

3, Peace & Conflict

Conflicts continue to divide the world. Dialogue is essential for resolving conflicts and maintaining peace. What can we do to help, while also renewing our values and incorporating technological advances?

  • Talk Session 「for dialogue」

What if dialogue is essential to prevent and resolve all conflicts? What can we do to create opportunities for dialogue in diverse conflicting relationships?

  • Talk Session 「Social media for peace」

In a world marked by intricate conflicts, social networking and other forms of communication channels often contribute to fragmentation. What is needed to develop and activate communication for peace amidst conflict?

5/12-Day2

Workshop Day

The workshop is the most important element of the Forum's commitment to 'Delivering Innovation for Peace'. The workshop will focus on the following three elements

1, Brainstorming & Networking

Through interactive discussions with like-minded young leaders who share similar goals, participants will exchange knowledge and experiences, elevating the resolution of social issues and fostering innovative ideas from diverse perspectives. The collaboration among individuals from various fields ignites a chemical reaction of creativity and progress.

2, Mentoring

Many of the speakers from Day 1 will serve as mentors to provide support, leveraging their expertise. With fewer participants compared to the Summit, you will have the opportunity to communicate more closely and intimately with global leaders, fostering meaningful communication and collaboration..

3, Connecting

Our partners bring unparalleled on-the-ground knowledge and expertise to turn ideas into reality. We provide opportunities to connect with partners, not only for specific advice but also for collaboration and funding opportunities to bring your ideas to life..

5/13

Fieldwork

Experience international exchange through Dejima, the sole window to the rest of the world during the period of national isolation, and explore the culture that thrivedin the city. Nagasaki's rich history and culture offer insights into solving various social problems, including the suppression of Christianity and the presence of hidden Christians, as well as the devastating impact of the second atomic bombing in human history on August 9th, 1945. As the host city, we organize fieldwork and other activities to provide participants with unique learning opportunities that can only be learnt in Nagasaki.

About Nagasaki

©NAGASAKI CITY

As a city that experienced the atomic bombing 79 years ago, Nagasaki, the host city of the Forum, has undergone rebuilding and development, with peace positioned as its foremost value.

With a rich history as a port city spanning 450 years, Nagasaki also boasts a culture that embraces diversity and creates new values. Throughout Japan's period of national isolation, Dejima stood as the sole island open to the world, playing a pivotal role in the cultural development of Japan and the world.

As the OYW Nagasaki Council, we represent a collaborative effort among industry, government and academia in Nagasaki. The forums we organize serve as catalysts for generating new ideas and fostering networks that unleash synergies that will transform the world. In order to give concrete shape to the innovative concepts born from the forum, we are committed to partnering with OYW beyond the forum to offer ongoing support to Peace-preneurs. This support includes expert mentoring, establishing connections with partner companies, and providing assistance for fundraising endeavors..
